McWane on the Move Brings Hands-On Science to Jonesboro Kindergartners

BESSEMER, Ala. — Science came to life for the youngest scholars at Jonesboro Elementary School, as the "McWane on the Move" outreach program visited the campus for a day of hands-on discovery.

The visiting program, part of the McWane Science Center's educational outreach initiative, engaged kindergarten students in a specialized workshop titled "Building a Bug." The interactive session allowed the "JES Stars" to explore entomology by examining insect anatomy and characteristics through tactile learning.

School officials noted that the visit sparked a high level of engagement among the students, fostering early interest in the natural sciences.

“Our kindergarteners had a blast learning about building a bug through hands-on science fun,” administrators said. “Hearing their excitement and seeing their curiosity made the day extra special.”

The program is designed to deliver high-quality science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum directly to classrooms. By bringing these resources to the school, Jonesboro Elementary provides its students with access to specialized equipment and expert instruction that complements standard classroom lessons.

Faculty members expressed their appreciation to the McWane team for their role in making science accessible and entertaining for the kindergarteners.

“We appreciate you for bringing science to life for our youngest JES Stars,” school officials added.
