J.S. Abrams Elementary Families Unwrap ‘The Gift of Reading’ During Literacy Night

BESSEMER, Ala. — J.S. Abrams Elementary School hosted a festive community event titled "The Gift of Reading," aimed at equipping parents with tools to support their children’s literacy development at home.

The Literacy Night brought families together for an evening of educational partnership, blending holiday cheer with practical academic strategies. Participants engaged in hands-on activities designed to make reading more engaging and meaningful for elementary students.

The event featured a combination of food, interactive games and collaborative learning sessions where parents and students worked side-by-side. Educators provided simple, daily strategies that families can implement to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and home life.

“This night was all about making reading fun, meaningful, and engaging for our students,” school officials said.

Organizers emphasized that literacy is a skill that can be nurtured throughout the holiday season. By framing reading as a "gift" to be unwrapped, the school hopes to encourage a culture of lifelong learning and curiosity within the Bessemer community.

“You can unwrap the gift of reading with your child this season,” administrators added.

The initiative is part of the school's ongoing commitment to increasing reading proficiency and fostering a strong connection between the campus and the families it serves.
