J.S. Abrams Elementary Promotes Girls in STEM

J.S. Abrams Elementary School is actively engaging female students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through its GEMS program.

GEMS, which stands for Girls Engaged in Math and Science, utilizes formal and informal learning environments to involve girls in STEM-related activities.

The program employs eight teaching strategies aimed at building self-confidence and increasing interest in math and science among female students. GEMS teacher practices focus on strengthening girls' belief in their abilities within these subjects, school officials said. The initiative supports the national effort to close the gender gap in STEM fields.
